1. Urine accidents
When your little ones have pee accidents on your mattress, cover the area with baking powder. Then, place towels on top of the stains and leave it like that for a few hours. The next step would be to sponge the stain with a damp cloth you previously soaked in white vinegar.
For better results, you could also use a DIY solution by mixing 5 drops of tea tree oil and warm water. Then, simply let the mattress air dry! You can open the windows to let the sun in, it will actually dry it quicker and it will also sanitize the urine.
2. Cleaning the spots on the mattress
Sometimes, your mattress might have spots from everyday use! You can easily clean it using warm, soapy water. Just wipe the spots with a damp sponge and allow them to dry thoroughly.
3. Remove baby vomit or poo from the mattress
If these accidents happen, all you have to do is act quickly. It will also help if your kid is sick, if you sanitize the mattress immediately, you have a better environment already. Thus, use a damp cloth to gather the excess dirtiness. Then, heat white vinegar enough for a spray bottle and use a damp cloth to wipe at the stain.
Next, after removing as much stain as possible, sprinkle some sodium bicarbonate on the area and leave for an hour or so. This will soak up any leftover bodily fluids. Then, damp again with the hot vinegar and repeat until you get rid both of the stain and odor.
4. Remove the blood stains from the mattress
This is yet another accident that might happen due to your period. It is not something you should be ashamed of, it happens. But you need to know how to clean it properly. Hence, if you get a blood stain on your mattress, the best thing for cleaning is hydrogen peroxide. Just a small bottle would be enough since you don’t need too much of it. Thus, apply a small amount to the stain. Then, clean the stain using a damp cloth to gently blot the area until it fades away. You might have to repeat it a few times, but it will definitely work. Lastly, allow it to dry in the sunlight.
5. Remove any moldy or mildew spots from a mattress
These issues are happening mostly in the summer because of the humidity and sweaty nights. Hence, you need to clean this right away because this is actually bad for your health. Thus, to get rid of the mold spores out of your mattress, mix some isopropyl alcohol and warm water into a spray bottle and sprinkle all over the moldy spots. Use a sponge to gently dab on the spots nd then open your windows to air dry completely.
6. Finally, make it smell fresh all the time
My favorite solution for this is a mixture of a few drops of eucalyptus oil into a cup of bicarbonate of soda. Mix these ingredients in a spray bottle and then, sprinkle all over your mattress. Allow it to sit for a few hours, then vacuum well and place in the sun.
