Every housewife knows that one of the most awful and obnoxious chore is cleaning a dirty oven. A few days ago I was telling you how to clean a dirty oven on the inside, effortlessly, but there’s more. The oven racks also get dirty and grimy over time and this requires and extra job when it comes to cleaning this appliance.
The bad thing about oven racks cleaning is that the grime and sticky grease won’t go only with dish soap and water. You need some harsh scrubbing to remove all that stuck grease.
Fortunately, there are two methods that my mom is been using since forever in removing grime from oven racks. She calls it soak and rub method! Any type of baked-on food and grease must be soaked before removing it. Otherwise you might ruin the surface of oven racks or any other cookware.
Baking Soda and Vinegar Method
Grab the following ingredients:
- Baking soda
- Vinegar
- Harsh scrubbing brush
Steps you need to take:
Put the oven racks in the tub (without water) and sprinkle baking soda abundantly over them. Then add 300 ml of white vinegar over the baking soda. Once the foam stops run the hot water over them until it fully covers the racks. Let them sit overnight. The next day, scrub the gunk that remains with a harsh brush.
Ammonia Trash Bag Method
Needed items:
- Trash bag
- ½ quart of ammonia
- Harsh scrubbing brush
Steps to follow:
Place the oven racks in a trash bag and add the ammonia amount. Seal the bag and let them sit overnight in the ammonia solution. The next morning open the bag and let the ammonia fumes to be released. It is better if you put on a mask and to open a window to prevent inhaling these toxic fumes. Rinse the racks and use the brush to scrub stubborn grease stains.
